1306. Jonah WESTOVER

From Ancestral File (TM), data as of 2 January 1996.

Another record puts all the children in this family with a Jonas b. 4 May 1628, in Taunton, Somerset, Eng., s. of Gabriel WESTOVER and Joanne GIFFORD, with wife and mar. date same as in this fam. By dates it is possb. that Jonas' father John could be a brother of the Jonas b. in Eng. A fam. record of Gabriel WESTOVER and Joanne GIFFORD lists a son John but no Jonas.

From The Griswold Family: Jonas was the son of John Westover. He was made a freeman of Windsor in 1658 and of Killingworth in 1669. They were members of the First Church in Killingworth. Their children were recorded, the first in Windsor, the rest in Killingworth. There were others recorded in Simsbury where he later moved, and where he died. Colonial Records show a lot granted at Windsor in 1661 to Jonas Westover at Bowfield. There was no home or family there of record. The will of Jonas Westover, Sen., of Simsbury is dated Sep. 20, 1702. References same as for wife, Hannah.

Savage - Jonas, Windsor, 1649, rem. to Killingworth, freem. 1658, is found in the list 1669. By w. Hannah, m 1663, had Margaret, b. 19 Feb 1666; Hannah, 8 Apr 1668; Eliz. 3 May 1670; Jane, 26 Mar 1672; and these are all appear. on the rec. but others he had, as by his will, in 1702, two other ds. and two s. are nam. Jonas, Jonathan, Mary, and Joanna. Perhaps one or more were not b. at K. but at Simsbury, where he d. Jan 1709

1307. Ann Griswold

5 birth or chr. recs. in IGI88 for this person, also known as Ann. Mother of Ann or Hannah given in one record as Margaret DIAMOND, in another as Margaret HICKS, and not given in the other 3. From The Griswold Family: "While there is no direct proof that the following record is correct, presumptive evidence indicates that this is the Hannah who married Jonas Westover. Search has not revealed any other Hannah Griswold who could have been his wife. Also, the fact that Jonas was one of the original settlers of Killingworth and had a lot next to Edward Griswold, as well as witnessing the deed of gift Edward made in favor of his youngest son John, points to the marriage. Hannah's will dated 1 Aug. 1713 states that she is of Symsbury, "relict of Jonah Westover deceased." She left legacies to her six daughters of 40 shillings each, and the remainder to be divided equally to daughters Hannah Alverd, Mary cAse, Jane Byington and Johanna. Additional items were left to the two sonsk, Jonah and Jonathan. References: REcords of Windsor, Killingworth, Simsbury, CT.; Stiles: Ancient Windsor; CT.
