In an Ident. betw. the Right Honor. Sir Richard SALTONSTALL, knt. E. peop.) chargeab. with William SHAKESPEAR, the great poet of humanity, as liable with others to that rate. Among the details of minute circumstances in the life of our immortal bard by a score of pens, I do not recollect, that his resid. in that parish of London is ment. He was freem. 1645, purch. 1646 the beautif. farm of 500 acres from Gov. His sec. w. m. 14 Mar 1649, was Eliz. d. of John NEWGATE of Boston, wid. of John OLIVER, the scholar (wh. d. 30 Sep 1709 at a good age, even if deduct. from the report of 91 yrs. be allow.) by wh. he had Sarah, 5 Jan bapt. at Boston 21 Apr 1650; Edmund, 15 Dec 1652; Lydia 1656; Eliz., 28 Apr 1658; ano. Cannot find IGI recs to support one AF version that Samuel is older br. of Jonathan and child of Robert of Denton. In another AF version (also not supported by IGI recs as of 7/24/93) Samuel seems to fit better as son of William of Denton, br. of Robert and uncle of Savage's first Jonathan, so I (VRT) will eliminate generation of Robert and Alice CROMPTON until more evidence indicates otherwise.
In Newton Vit.Rec. order of children is Samuel, Elizabeth, Joshua, Job, Sarah with no dates given for the first two.
