Ancestors of Ray Martin Taylor

Notes

1024. Stephen TAYLOR

Marriage to Sarah HOSFORD: CT. Colonists, Windsor 1635-1703 974.62/W1X4h p. 255 also Winds. CT. p. 67; CT Historical Society 1930 p. 67 Other wife: Mrs. Elizabeth NOWELL (md. 25OCT1649)

The identity of Stephen Taylor of Windsor, CT with Stephen Taylier of Spreyton, Devon is conjecture, but based on several coincidences. Birth of CT Stephen is given in some records as abt. 1624, but a deposition mentioned in article by Coddington in American Genealogist says age in 1684 was about 66 years, corresponding to a birth of abt. 1618. Same article says CT Stephen must be from Somerset, Dorset, Devon area by his associations. Of all Stephens around those dates, Stephen of Spreyton (Devon) seems most likely. Spreyton parish register (film 0916345(5)) says only '1622-Stephen s. of Robert TAYLIER' and also did not eliminate him by subsequent marraige or death.

Stephen's will found in The American Genealogist p. 201. More of his history found on p. 197-203.
